no-fail apple crisp
Ingredients:
6 honeycrisp apples, peeled and chopped (or variety of your liking)
2 tbsp of maple sugar (or granulated sugar)
1 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon, divided
1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
splash of vanilla
1 cup coconut sugar (or brown sugar)
3/4 cup old fashioned oats
3/4 cup all-purpose flour (more as needed)
1/2 cup cool salted butter, diced into small cubes
pinch of kosher salt
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spray a pie plate with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
Combine prepared apples with 2 tbsp of maple sugar, 3/4 tsp cinnamon, lemon juice and vanilla is a large bowl. Toss/stir until apples are evenly coated.
Pour apples in prepared pie plate.
In a separate bowl, combine butter, coconut sugar, cinnamon, oats, flour and a pinch of salt. Using a fork press dry ingredients into butter until a uniform crumb forms. Alternatively, use a food processor to combine butter, flour, sugar , cinnamon and salt. Pulse until pea size crumbles form. Add oats and combine.
Pour crumble on top of apples. Bake at 35-40 minutes (or until bubbly).
Allow to cool for 20 minutes and serve warm with a scoop of your favorite vanilla ice cream!
