no-fail apple crisp

Ingredients:

  • 6 honeycrisp apples, peeled and chopped (or variety of your liking)

  • 2 tbsp of maple sugar (or granulated sugar)

  • 1 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon, divided

  • 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice

  • splash of vanilla

  • 1 cup coconut sugar (or brown sugar)

  • 3/4 cup old fashioned oats

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (more as needed)

  • 1/2 cup cool salted butter, diced into small cubes

  • pinch of kosher salt

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spray a pie plate with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.

  • Combine prepared apples with 2 tbsp of maple sugar, 3/4 tsp cinnamon, lemon juice and vanilla is a large bowl. Toss/stir until apples are evenly coated.

  • Pour apples in prepared pie plate.

  • In a separate bowl, combine butter, coconut sugar, cinnamon, oats, flour and a pinch of salt. Using a fork press dry ingredients into butter until a uniform crumb forms. Alternatively, use a food processor to combine butter, flour, sugar , cinnamon and salt. Pulse until pea size crumbles form. Add oats and combine.

  • Pour crumble on top of apples. Bake at 35-40 minutes (or until bubbly).

  • Allow to cool for 20 minutes and serve warm with a scoop of your favorite vanilla ice cream!
